Single-port laparoscopy (SPL)

It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which the operation is done exclusively through a single entry point, typically the patient’s navel/ belly button.
Unlike a traditional multi-port laparoscopic approach, SPL leaves only a single small scar. The spectrum of single port laparoscopic surgery (SPLS) is broad and includes operations from simple diagnostic laparoscopy to gastrectomy or liver resection. It offers the chance to further minimize the access trauma with a new technique and ergonomy.
Advantages of SPLS include improved cosmesis, lower morbidity associated with elimination of peripheral ports, shorter length of hospital stay, and potential for decreased incision pain.
